Day 1 León Cistierna

The group will meet at the Parador Nacional San Marcos de León at 12:00 p.m. for a tour of this historic city, including visits to San Isidoro, the Cathedral, the Old Town, and San Marcos. Enjoy lunch in León. Afterwards, board the train in San Feliz and settle into your accommodations. The train will then travel to Cistierna, where you'll have dinner and spend the night.

Day 2 Cistierna Espinosa de Los Monteros

While enjoying breakfast, the train will travel from Cistierna to Guardo. From there, a bus will take guests to Saldaña, where they'll visit the Roman Villa of Olmeda and explore Palentino Romanesque art in Carrión de los Condes, Villalcázar de Sirga, and Frómista. After a meal, board the train in Mataporquera and journey to Espinosa de los Monteros, passing by the captivating Ebro reservoir and the Las Merindades region. Dinner and overnight stay will be in Espinosa de Los Monteros.

Day 3 Espinosa de los Monteros Santander

Arrive in Bilbao during breakfast, a modern city where the estuary meets the sea. After a meal, we'll take the train to Santander, the capital of Cantabria, a charming fishing city that preserves its historical allure. Dinner and overnight stay in Santander.

Day 4 Santander Llanes

The day begins with a visit to the Altamira Neocave, a museum and faithful reproduction of Upper Palaeolithic rock art. Next, explore Santillana del Mar, known for its beautifully preserved medieval district. After lunch, return to the train and journey into the Asturias region, reaching Llanes. Dinner and overnight stay on board the train in Llanes.

Day 5 Llanes Oviedo

After breakfast, guests will take a coach trip to the heart of the Picos de Europa National Park, visiting Lake Enol and the Covadonga Sanctuary, a site rich in tradition and legend. Later, return to El Transcantábrico for lunch on board as you will travel to Oviedo, the capital of the Principality of Asturias. The day concludes with a tour, dinner, and overnight stay in Oviedo.

Day 6 Oviedo Luarca

The day begins with a tour of Gijon, a city on the Bay of Biscay, known for its cultural vibrancy. After lunch in Gijon, return to El Transcantábrico and travel along the Asturian coast to Luarca, the White Town of the Green Coast. Here, you will enjoy a guided tour of this charming seaside town. Dinner and overnight stay on board the train in Luarca.

Day 7 Luarca Viveiro

Today, take a trip to Ribadeo, a historic Galician town on the border of Asturias. Later, travel along the Lugo coast by coach to Las Catedrales Beach, one of the most spectacular beaches in the world. After a panoramic tour of Ribadeo and lunch, continue by train to Viveiro. The evening includes a guided tour and some free time. Dinner and overnight stay on board the train in Viveiro.

Day 8 Viveiro Santiago de Compostela

During your final breakfast on board, travel to Ferrol, where a coach will take you to Santiago de Compostela. Here, you'll tour the city's old town, a thousand-year-old pilgrimage destination known for its magnificent cathedral. The trip concludes around 1:00 p.m. after visiting the Parador de los Reyes Católicos.

GRAND LUXURY SUITE:
The Grand Luxury Suites, adorned with exclusive details, are spacious and designed for rest and privacy. There are only 14 suites in the train's 7 cars - and each suite can be set up to be used as a single, double or triple room.

Each suite is made up of a lounge, bedroom, and private bathroom. The sleeping area features a spacious double bed (1.5m x 2.0m) or two twin beds (0.8m x 2.0m), television and wardrobe while the lounge area has a comfortable sofa, which can be turned into a bed (0.8m x 1.80m), luggage closet, writing desk, safe, minibar, flatscreen TV, music player, adjustable air-conditioning, multimedia computer with free Internet access and internal telephone service. All suites feature their own spacious, comfortable bathroom, with a hydromassage shower and steam sauna, hairdryer, and a varied set of welcome items and toiletries.

Can you book my international airfares?

On some Islands Holiday Packages (e.g. Fiji), it is practical to include flights, so where we have done this it is indicated by the plane icon.

However, on the majority of our Holiday Packages, we do not include international flights.

We found that many customers may prefer to:

Travel on a specific airline of their choice
Have the flexibility to book flights with Frequent Flyer points
Select flight dates that may be different to our Holiday Package start/end dates
Use a Travel Credit already held with the airline
Use their travel agent for this service

We are able to assist with flights on any Holiday Package, so please just notify us during the Book Now process or contact our team.

Should I take travel insurance?

Travel insurance is strongly recommended. During the Book Now process please confirm you require assistance, and our team will be in contact with you.

What should I do before travelling?

Before you travel it is your responsibility to ensure you have the appropriate documentation including visas. If you are travelling on a passport other than Australian or New Zealand, you will require a permit to re-enter Australia. It is your responsibility as the traveller and/or travel booker to meet all government entry requirements.
