After breakfast, begin a wonderful day trip visiting Pompeii, the most famous and evocative archaeological site in the world (UNESCO World Heritage Site) and the imposing volcano Vesuvius, "the Big Giant", which caused the terrible destruction of this city in 79 AD.
The Roman city of Pompeii disappeared under a thick layer of volcanic ashes, blasted over the city as a consequence of a devastating volcanic eruption which killed its inhabitants and making it disappear for about 1500 years, until it was rediscovered as one of the best preserved historical sites in the world. This unique archeological site provides a unique snapshot of the ancient Roman life. Walking along the streets of Pompeii, you’ll discover houses, bakeries and shops, catching a glimpse into the everyday lives of its original inhabitants.
After Pompeii, drive up to Mt. Vesuvius and stop in a local restaurant with beautiful panoramic views. Enjoy a wine tasting, accompanied by local food. From here, your driver will lead you to 1000m altitude: once there, you will walk to the top of the volcano to admire its crater. At the summit, enjoy the commentary provided by the National Park’s vulcanological guide (included) or just peek into the crater on your own. Admire the summit of Mount Somma (1133 m) and to the right, the cone of Vesuvius (1281 m), both separated by a valley, called Valley of the Giant.
